A local college and middle school worked together to help a mountain community connect with its past. Owen Middle School and Warren Wilson College dedicated a mural and plot of river cane in a ceremony at the middle school Wednesday afternoon. It was part of the Natural Impact Initiative, which aims to raise awareness about the heritage of the Swannanoa and Black Mountain valleys. The river cane will also serve as a teaching tool about the Cherokee Indians.
